Our Greater Cleveland Chorus Leadership

Greater Cleveland Chorus thrives because of the energy and style of the people who have stepped up to lead. Here are a few of the people that make our ensemble tick:

JEAN FLINN, MASTER DIRECTOR

GCC is privileged to have Jean as its director, having won six first place medals under her leadership. Jean has been the director for Greater Cleveland Chorus since 1994 and is a second generation barbershopper having joined Sweet Adelines in her teens.

She is a certified music arranger and a certified judge in the music category. A sought after educator, Jean is part of the Sweet Adelines International Faculty as well as the Music Education Team for Region 17.

Jean is a Music Educator for the Akron Public Schools. She and her husband Doug have three children; Melissa, Ryan, and Kelley, and one grandchild.

MARILYNN SCHROETER, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Our Associate director, Marilynn Schroeter, has been a Sweet Adeline for 30 years, serving as section leader and assistant director. She is active in the Region as a faculty member, teaching in the Regional Arranger’s Program, coaching choruses and quartets.  Marilynn lives in Bedford with her husband and their  children, Lindy, Jimmy . She works at the Bright Beginnings Preschool for children with Special Needs.

ELAINE BAKOS, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Elaine Bakos joined Sweet Adelines in 1971. She directed the former West Towne’s Chorus for six years, winning the Novice Director’s Award. In 1996 Elaine joined GCC and soon afterwards was appointed Lead Section Leader and Assistant Director. Elaine has taught numerous Directors Certification classes on the regional level, and enjoys coaching chapter quartets. Elaine is a retired Legal Secretary and Administrative Staff Manager. She and husband Jim are proud parents of three, and doting grandparents of three.

JEAN KNIGHT, CERTIFIED DIRECTOR

A 35 year member of Sweet Adelines, and founder and director for 30 years of the Lake Ridge Chorus in nearby Elyria where she is Director Emeritus, Jean has become a dual member of the growing and exciting Greater Cleveland Chorus.

Jean is a retired Jr. High and elementary music teacher having taught 29 years in the Elyria and Sandusky City Schools. While in Sandusky she accompanied the Firelands Chorus and for several years directed the American Theatre Chorus in Elyria. Jean is an approved arranger and has sung tenor in several local quartets.

Jean lives with her daughter, Julie, in Elyria and has one 11 year old grandson.

She and her husband, Paul, are parents of a daughter, also a barbershopper, and three grandchildren. They live in Elyria.
